Captain Marvel was made in 2019 and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. When Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson, forget who she is and tries to remember her past. Along her journey she becomes one of the powerful heroes the universe has ever known.
What I didn’t like about the movie was that I didn’t care about the characters the beginning; the movie was too fast paced. The filmmakers also didn’t set up a background for the main character so we just have to like the character already. Maybe Marvel assumes that we already know everything about the superhero we are watching. Maybe some super fans do, but I certain don’t. There was also an extremely stupid character reveal when we learn how Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, gets his eye cut. It has also been very mysterious throughout the Marvel Universe as to why Fury wheres an eyepatch, and it turns out do be… a cat scratched his eye. What a super LAME REASON, but now it’s canon to the story and that’s that. It really down grades the character Nick Fury.
I enjoyed the good acting in this movie. When the best friend of Carol Danvers’ named Maria Rambeau, played by Lashana Lynch, told Carol that she could do anything that she put her mind to and that in her memories she was one of the strongest women she knew without the superpowers. With tears in Maria’s eyes, the audience could tell that she really missed Carol and believed in her. I didn’t like Brie Larson’s acting though, she had no charm, she didn’t have any facial expressions other then smirk couple of times.
There was many symbolisms to real life circumstances. This movie has some ties with feminism. We keep getting flashbacks of our main character Carol’s memories of actives like when she was a kid, when she was working at her new job, or the point of when she got her superpowers. We then see some guy telling her that she can’t do something or that she shouldn’t be doing that thing. We then see her falling down one the ground and all the guys saying I told you so. In this scene, Yon- Rogg, played by Jude Law, tells Carol that she is nothing without the Brie, and that she wouldn’t have any powers. Later Carol realizes that she had the power within her the whole time and didn’t need the Brie’s permission. Carol being on the ground, stands up and tells him what she is capable of.
I didn’t hate this movie, I think there was some parts that I didn’t like and there was some parts that I did like. Overall this movie was just incredibly average! I will give it a 2.5 out of 5 stars.
