Tommy Boy

THIS REVIEW DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS

Tommy Boy was made in 1995 and directed by Peter Segal. When the tycoon of the small town auto-parts story father dies, the overweight, unearchevinging song has to join forces with the disapproving accountant of the father to try and save the family owned business.

This movie was hilarious! There were so many funny parts to his movie it was amazing. I enjoyed the parts of the movie that really foreshadowed the humor that’s coming up. In one scene Tommy and Richard, played by Chris Farley and David Spade, were driving in the car to go to meet with a company up in the Midwest. The Midwest is known for the deer population. The movie shows the landscape, the deer, and where they are going even before they start talking. Once they do start talking Tommy begins to distract Richard and then suddenly hit a deer. They both begin to cry bring the deer with them, but then the deer wakes up and destroys the car. They foreshadowed the deer scene happening even before the audience knows the deer will be a funny sequence of event. This movie is full of foreshadowing, which I really enjoy and I feel like what a lot of movies don’t do nowadays.

I noticed a technique that this movie did, that classical movie, Citizen Kane did. On part when Richard wanted to get some directing from the gas attended, played by David Huband, inside the store. Meanwhile Tommy was outside the store putting some gas in the car, when he starts to make some interesting choices filling up the car. They then go back the Richard talking to the gas attendant while showing Tommy through the window doing really bad things to the car, and I just remember Citizen Kane doing the same thing. Citizen Kane was telling many different stories at the same time, and Tommy Boy was doing the same thing they were telling Tommy’s story at the same time at telling Richard’s story.

Hilarious, laid back, heartwarming; this movie has everything you need for a classic comedy, and a good time. I give this movie a 3.5 out of 5.
